Why Are Christians Like Daydreamers

When I was little, I daydreamed a lot. At first, my dreams were simple and far away from reality, but they were fun anyway. With time, I learned to daydream „like an expert“ designing more and more complicated dreams that had more logic, and that were more and more in touch with reality. As a grew up and stopped with this routine, I left behind me a system of daydreams, a whole world of my own which was pretty awesome and worked up to detail.

Today's Christianity has built a pretty impressive system too. There are plenty of books about Christian doctrines, Christian life and Christian beliefs. Systematic theology links all the doctrines into one system. But what did we have about Christianity couple of thousand years ago? In the time of Old Testament, the Bible claims that God revealed Himself on many occasions. That means that time for devising information about God has begun. With every new era, God would reveals something more about Himself and we would have a better knowledge of Him. And today, we have a better picture of God(theologically speaking) than ever. And all of that is because God revealed Himself slowly; He took His time, He has lead us step by step.
But when you look at what God said in the Bible, what God did in The Bible, you can't say that humanity made an error in judging Him - you can say that He made an error - over and over again. He blew it when He sent the Flood, he blew it when He spoke in anger about slaughter and revenge, He blew it when He murdered and ordered murders. With time, He started behaving better and in the New Testament we see a more gentle God who is more caring and more filled with love - a bit perfected version of Him - version 1.02. Although the New Testament has plenty of violence and revenge originating from God too. Later, with years to come, we see theologians designing even gentler God and violence is almost excluded from His character - if you don't count the final destruction of sinners...A version 1.12. Today, God wouldn't hurt a soul.
This story reeks of daydreaming and self-deception. Like my daydreams, God was at first simple and illogical, and with time He became more complicated, better, and some of His elements from the past had to be removed or ignored. The system got better and better and now it's impressive. God is good now. But looking at the past of Christianity, you can see that the knowledge of God is not the main element that evolved with passing time - God evolved! The way He behaved and the way He spoke. And I don't believe we can summon evolution upon God. That is why this whole story of Christianity can be compared to my daydreams. And I don't believe its true what I dreamed of. There is a difference between the world I want and the world I live in. There is a border between those two worlds, and it should never be crossed.
