Love is the foundation of every good friendship, of every
strong family, of every good romantic relationship. If two persons are committed to each
other for other reasons, then we're taking about business relationships, or
unhealthy families, or shallow friendships, or short love affairs, or simply
about two people working together or doing something together both of them like
without a need for something more. These kind of relationships are important
and right for certain situations, but of others can be catastrophic. For
example, if you're an ambitious employee trying to go up the corporate ladder,
it would be a good idea to be a master in strictly business relationships.
But
when you're a part of a family, or a friend of someone, or a girlfriend, then
it would be a good idea to base your relationship/relationships on love. Love
is a very difficult thing to describe nowadays, but let's just say that love is
when two persons feel something and do something for each other for a hundred
reasons, and not all of them can be explained.
Why are you good to your wife?
1. You want her to be good to you.
2. You want sex.
3. You want to avoid arguments.
4. You want to feel good about yourself.
5. You want to be liked.
There are other reasons too, but if there is a reason among
them which is not mathematical, which is not linked to your gain, then you do
love her.
If God
exists, if the Bible has anything to do with Him, than He wants you to have
faith in Him, He wants you to trust Him, He wants you to do something for Him,
but most of all, He wants you to love Him. And the difference between the best
christian ever and the worst fanatic would be that everything you do for Him
would be out of a hundred reasons, but one of them is unexplainable - one of
them is love.
If you
look at the Bible, that is why faith is not enough. You can believe in His
existence, but it can get you nowhere. You can be good to other people, but
that can get you nowhere. You need to love Him only a little bit, and
everything else will fall into its place. That is what the most logical and the
most inspiring Bible verses will tell you.
Putting
the Bible aside, there is a logical reason for this. If God created persons,
than he is a person at least. He is probably something more. How would a
shapeless energy create something like that? Something even more complicated that
itself?
Then we go a step further. If He
created persons that are at their best when they love, than He is the One Who
loves at least. He maybe feels something more than love. How could He create
creatures that love if He isn't The Master of Love? And if he is The Master of
Love, how would he let Himself surrender to feelings of hatred? He is God, He can
do whatever He likes, He can feel whatever He likes. Why feel hatred if love is
so much more pleasurable?
Considering this, it seems that a loving God
is the most reasonable description of Him, if He does exist. All this makes
love as the number one element in relationship with Him - and if He created
persons capable of relationship, He too is capable of them for sure. And if He loves,
He wants them too.
If we
conclude that love would be the foundation of relationship with God, what does
that mean for churches, books, organisations, buildings, administrations and
everything that has been build around God? Does it do any good? It will be continued...
